Are you suffering from Post-Truss Disorder? Did you read and enjoy Lynne Truss's wonderful book, but afterwards feel a bit uneasy? Can you be confident that your English is always correct?
I have spent the whole of my working life in publishing, first in publicity for academic books, then in promoting all kinds of British books overseas and later editing a monthly magazine of book trade news and book reviews. Since I went freelance 15 years ago I have drawn on this experience and have tended to specialise in writing about the book trade, updating and editing training materials, producing catalogue and flyer texts, writing and subbing magazine copy and rewriting typescripts. More idiosyncratic jobs (reflecting my background in English Literature and a continuing enthusiasm for contemporary writing) have included organising the programme for a crime fiction festival and reading and sifting for literary prizes. My clients have included:
Arts Council England
The Bookseller
The Booksellers Association
Butterworth-Heinemann
The Central Office of Information
The Centre for British Teachers (CfBT)
International Book Development Ltd
Kogan Page Ltd
PEC Video Ltd
The Publishers Association
Publishing News
Random House (UK) Ltd
I am a person who pays close attention to detail, am a good organiser and so far have never missed a copy date. If you have a text of any kind for me to correct, improve or approve, do send details, contacting me initially via e-mail at <jcreswick@tiscali.co.uk>. I live in West Hampstead, London NW6 and so am within easy reach of most London offices if you would like us to meet to discuss a potential assignment.
References can be supplied on request. Meanwhile I quote from the acknowledgements to Malcolm Gibson's Starting and Running a Bookshop (The Booksellers Association, 2nd edn 1999, 3rd edn 2004): "I must also pay an enormous debt of gratitude to my editor, Jennifer Creswick, who has patiently transformed my turgid text into something much more readable".
